2011 has been such a wonderful year for us and for many of our clients. It is not because the biggest flood that had hit Queensland since 1974 did not hit us, or that our life has gone extra smoothly. In fact, there were so many things that challenged us in 2011 that it really served as a wakeup call and strong impetus to shift and to refocus and re-align our lives. We did not wallow in self pity, excuses or blame, well, maybe the occasional bags of chips, few tubs of ice-cream and sleepless nights, but we made the conscious choice to let go of the fear, the sadness, the anger and focus with all we got on the positives.
I got a call a few weeks ago from someone who has suffered from depression for a long period of time and currently on quite a lot of medication. They asked me if NLP can help? I said yes, and explained what NLP is and my own experiences working with others who had suffered from depression. To that they answered, that they had tried everything over the years, and considers themselves one of these people that can’t be changed and needs evidence that NLP can change them and that they do not like giving the coach or the therapist the power over them and many other conditions.
Wow! All I could think of is how this person robs themselves of their life and the chance to live the life that they want! There is so much we can go into regarding this person’s conversation and asking key questions to shift them. At the end of the day, their mind has already been made up and that is that they do not believe they can change and that they do not want to give themselves the chance to do so.
As I catch up with all my clients for a follow up and hearing all the success, I am touched, I know why they are successful, not because of me (well maybe a little), but because they give themselves the chance to change their life.
We look at the challenges that we had in the past few years, and we are grateful that we gave ourselves the chance to turn things around and enjoy what we have today because of that.
Give yourself the chance to succeed this year by saying to yourself, “What if it is possible?” This is one of the best gifts anyone can give to themselves.
